Braun KSM2-WH Aromatic Coffee Grinder, White Review

Braun KSM2-WH Aromatic Coffee Grinder, WhiteMy unit has been smoothly grinding coffee beans for over a year, and shows no signs of slowing down.If I had to replace this grinder tomorrow, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the same model again.

Yes, it is loud while it's grinding but the noise never lasts more than about 10 seconds.Often I just pulse it a few times for 2-3 seconds each. It's the smell of fresh coffee, not the sound of the grinder that gets our family out of bed in the morning.

After a year I'm happy to report that the motor isn't evidencing any signs of fatigue, nor do the blades seem to be dulling.I'm not too hard on it though -- it's used less than half a minute every day.It never grinds anything harder than frozen coffee beans. And I never use anything wet or damp to clean the inside. After tapping out all of the freshly ground coffee, I wipe out any residual "coffee dust" with a dry paper towel.

I feel that it's a very efficient coffee grinder, and an excellent value for the price.UPDATE: It's now March 2009, almost seven years after I wrote the above review.I'm still using the same coffee grinder every morning (and twice on Saturdays). It's held up fine and shows no signs of slowing down. The reliability has been excellent!

DeLonghi KG89 Electric 12-Cup Burr Grinder, StainlessHaving put up with some very messy grinders, I tried this one and luv it!! Much less mess, much quieter, and easy to use. Yeah it is not a conical grinder but it does an excellent job and has a place in my kitchen!

More than just sleek, modern, good looks, this electric grinder produces freshly ground coffee beans, helping to ensure the freshest, most delicious cup of coffee. Other highlights include a simple on/off button, a transparent lid and ground-coffee container for viewing contents at a glance, self-contained cord storage, and a dual safety system that shuts the unit off automatically with either the lid or the ground-coffee container out of place. Nesco BG-88 Professional 12-Cup Burr Grinder with 17 Grind Settings Review

Nesco BG-88 Professional 12-Cup Burr Grinder with 17 Grind SettingsThis was my first burr grinder and since I wanted to just try it out I went with the inexpensive choice. Well, you really do get what you pay for because this grinder just stopped grinding for no apparent reason after about a month of use.

Up until it died, it did seem to do a good job for our drip machine (I didn't get around to trying in the french press). However, this machine is impossible to clean. It has a rubber type piece at the exit of the coffee shoot and I found this problematic because the coffee really stuck to it. I have since tried another product where you can remove pieces and really clean it out.

Overall, I believe this to be a poor quality machine that if you plan on using frequently will probably not last. It may be fine if you use sporadically and hence want a cheaper product. However, good luck with the cleaning. Using sporadically could cause for some really stale coffee remnants.

Burr Mill Adjustable/Pre-Programmed Coffee Grinder Review

Burr Mill Adjustable/Pre-Programmed Coffee GrinderI have only owned this coffee mill for a couple of weeks, so I can't promise anything beyond what I know now. Before buying the Toastmaster, I owned its 'twin' made by Melitta (except the Melitta had an all black front panel with no silver piece behind the buttons). It lasted for several years, but had a tendency to clog especially with the oilier coffees at the finer grind setting. So far this one has worked fine.It does the job well at a reasonable price for a burr mill.Is is not as large as many of the others so it takes less counter space. It has small suction cups at the bottom which help it grip the counter top and prevent it from scratching the granite. This burr mill is a good value and I recommend giving it a try before you spend much more money on another mill.

KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Grinder - Onyx Black Review

KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Grinder - Onyx BlackORIGINAL REVIEW WRITTEN IN 1-2009: The Kitchen Aid Pro Line burr grinder has been sitting next to my drip coffee maker for more than a week and it effortlessly became part of my morning routine after its first use! It is solid, quiet, quick and grinds beans evenly with no static mess.

BACK STORY: I have owned burr and conical burr coffee grinders for more than 20 years. Most recently, I owned the Bodum conical burr grinder and it died after maybe 5 years of daily use. I did quite a bit of research and decided on the Breville conical burr grinder Breville BCG450XLConical Burr Grinder as a replacement. The reviews on Amazon rate the Breville very highly for its price class but I was extremely disappointed when I received it. I found it was extremely lightweight and flimsy in construction. Other than the burrs, it's made of plastic. Worst of all I couldn't get the burrs (which had to be removed for cleaning along with the plastic bean hopper and grind cup before first use) to fit back in properly. I tried and tried. There was no diagram or detailed instructions. No information on the Breville web site and a customer service telephone number that was never answered. Someone suggested just letting the burrs sit "unsecured" under the bean hopper. When attempted, the unit spewed ground coffee all over the kitchen creating a mighty mess and extreme cursing. I wasted four days trying to get Breville customer service! With great aggravation, I returned the Breville to Amazon. Back to square one.

After more research, I decided that I needed to spend more money to get the kind of coffee grinder I could live with. I wanted quality construction, ease of use, good even grind from coarse to fine, reliable customer service from a company that was not going to disappear in a few years, and finally, no plastic parts that contributed to the static electricity that caused the ground bean residue to fly around and settle on to everything nearby.

I chose the Kitchen Aid. The Kitchen Aid is ugly-handsome in a 1930's futuristic, form-follows-function way. Like the classic Kitchen Aid mixer, this grinder delivers what it promises. "Just the facts, m'aam". It is made of solid, heavy metal and the bean carafe and grind carafe are both made of glass. No static! No mess! Heaven! The instruction book is extremely well written and specific to a fault. The unit is surprisingly quiet....no frightened cat! No closing the kitchen door so not to wake the household! The beans are evenly ground. There are over 15 grind settings to choose from. No timer, but really, why have one? I've never used a timer that delivered the quantity necessary. I don't even miss it.

Kitchen Aid offers an excellent, two year guarantee. The glass parts are removable and dish-washable. And, probably most important, should disaster strike, the glass parts as well as the burrs are replaceable! (NOTE 5-10-10: Disaster struck! The ground bean hopper broke! I called the KitchenAid Customer Service 800# printed in the instruction book and ordered a new glass hopper for $12.95 which included S/H. It arrived in several days. While on the phone, I asked the rep why I couldn't find the Coffee Grinder or spare parts for the grinder on the KitchenAid web site. She told me that KitchenAid was coming out with new small kitchen appliances very soon. They are selling out of and discontinuing manufacturing this particular model although spare parts would be available for several years.)

So far, I am delighted!

UPDATE 2-10: Excellent grinder. No complaints! A few months ago I noticed that the normally even grind was getting a bit rough and that beans were sometimes getting stuck in the grind mechanism. I got out the extremely well illustrated instruction book, opened up to the chapter on "Care and Cleaning" and followed the easily duplicated instructions. I loosened two screws, opened the faceplate assembly, removed the burr shaft and cleaned everything out with the supplied burr cleaning brush. I treated the bean hopper and grind container to a wash in the dishwasher. Re-assembly was a snap (unlike earlier Breville re-assembly fiasco) and my problems were resolved. A note to reviewers who have static problems: washing the grind hopper with dish washing liquid solves the problem. Also, I found that cleaning out the burrs and burr shaft helps to reduce the incidence of grinds falling onto the bin platform when the grind hopper bin is removed. Thus eliminating the need to BOP.

I've owned my trusty Kitchen Aid mixer for well over twenty years. Maybe, just maybe this coffee grinder will be around for a long time too!

Hopefully, KitchenAid will continue to offer spare parts!

The KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Grinder grinds whole coffee beans for the best tasting cup you ve ever brewed! Whether you re grinding for espresso, drip coffee, French Press or something in-between, 15 different grind settings give you plenty of options. The commercial-quality burrs actually flake coffee instead of crushing it, so you don t lose any of the essential oils that give coffee its full flavor. Turning at just 450 RPMs, this burr grinder also ensures those oils will not burn off due to frictional heat. Special gears control the delivery of beans to the burrs for a better grind consistency, and a plastic seal helps position the coffee bin under the grinding spout to prevent grounds from escaping. Now for the real plus: the Kitchen Aid Pro Line Coffee Grinder has a bean hopper and coffee bin made of GLASS rather than plastic to eliminate static cling. Glass means less cleanup, plus fluffy-looking grounds that won t cling to each other or the grinder. Manual Coffee Grinder Review

Manual Coffee GrinderI was looking for a coffee grinder for some time and finally have chosen this one because it seemed to be quiet and unexpensive. After the package arrived it turned out I was right- it is quiet and also beautifull, made with nice, dark wood. Looks great on the shelf. I should give it 5 stars but it takes forever to mill 3 tblspoons of coffee so I rarely use it- and for this misfit with my character it gets only 4.

KitchenAid ProLine Burr Coffee Grinder - Onyx Black Review

KitchenAid ProLine Burr Coffee Grinder - Onyx BlackThis is an excellent coffee grinder. It has a powerful, yet quiet motor and the grind selection dial is robust. The straight, vertical path of beans through the grinder makes it very trouble free. The only downsides are it is big, heavy and takes up a fair amount of counter space. This is a serious grinder, but it makes seriously good coffee.

Lello Ariete Burr Coffee Grinder Review

Lello Ariete Burr Coffee Grinder(UPDATE 2008: What's with the $50.00 price tag? When I bought this, it was $30.00 and well worth the price! It still works as I've listed below, but I would never contend that there aren't better grinders. At $50.00, it's approaching the price of more functional machines.Yes, it works well, but $50.00?)

This grinder works well. It's a very significant improvement over my blade grinder. It has two ridged wheels facing one another with an angle of somewhere between 10 and 20 degrees between the edges of the wheels. The beans go in the hopper up on top and fall through the shoot into the spinning wheels. The ridges on the wheels are dull to the touch, so the beans get crushed as they pass through with no cutting occuring at all.The grounds come out extraordinarily uniform in size and by turning the hopper, you can select a grind size from the fineness of flour upwards to a size larger than one would generally use for drip. It's also very fast; MUCH faster than a blade grinder.Unlike the reviews I've read of other low-priced burr grinders, this one is very clean. The chute from which the grounds are expelled projects slightly into the collecting bin, so they are all neatly collected without spillage. The collecting bin comes off of the grinder, which makes sticking a scoop in the bin to transport the grounds to the espresso filter easy. Also, because the whole collecting bin comes off, it's easy to rinse the bin in the sink after every use.The body of the machine is made up of about one quarter stainless steel and three quarters plastic.Of some concern to me is the report of a later poster that his machine is all plastic: I wonder if Lello altered the machine construction since I posted my review in April of 2006?Ah well, I can only report on my own results...

Unlike another reviewer, I had no problems manipulating the various parts of the grinder (e.g., removing the collecting bin), the collecting bin's cover did not fly off spontaneously, and the hopper cover was easy to lift off of the machine.I do agree with one reviewer that, unlike a blade grinder, this machine is a bit large to store in a cabinet between cans of tunafish.Plan on setting it on the counter.

The two potential complaints I have about it don't bother me much:
1- It's very loud, but because it grinds so quickly, this doesn't bother me, as it's not loud for long.
2- You select the amount that you want the machine to grind, but at the lowest amount and the finest setting, it doesn't grind the amount selected, so I have to set the dial to grind for four cups when I want two.Not a big deal once you figure it out.

Black & Decker CBG100S Smartgrind Coffee Grinder, Stainless Steel Review

Black & Decker CBG100S Smartgrind Coffee Grinder, Stainless SteelI thought the only problem with this grinder was that it didn't grind up the beans completely until the grinder kept going even when the lid was removed! I had this grinder less than 30 days and, needless to say, it has been returned. At the speed these things grind they have to have safety features that work. Cuisinart CBM-18 Programmable Conical Burr Mill Review

Cuisinart CBM-18 Programmable Conical Burr Mill**See July 18 update below.

Original Review:
I've been looking for a replacement to my "Lello 45800/3006 Ariete Burr Coffee Grinder" for at least a year.I've probably read a good portion of the reviews for every burr grinder sold by Amazon, and the combined reviews in general left much to be desired for every single one. Finally a few weeks ago I noticed this unit in my search results, and from what I could tell, it was a new release! There were no reviews at all at the time, so frankly there was nothing to dissuade me from purchasing this one.I couldn't even compare prices, because it seemed Amazon was the only one selling it at the time.In addition, the black/stainless styling matched my new coffee maker (Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker). So I ordered it, received it today, and I just had my first cup of coffee using its coffee grinds.

I'm no expert on coffee. But I must say this is the easiest coffee grinder I have ever used. There is an LED display alongside a button allowing me to select number of cups. The LED display also shows the selected grind setting dialed on the hopper.First I pressed the button to select number of cups, then I adjusted the dial to select the grind setting. Finally, I pushed Start and let it go.I think the noise level is about half that of my previous grinder, but that's not saying much. The LED display counted down the seconds until completed.I was surprised by the amount of output, which seemed much greater than from my old grinder. But in retrospect I don't think this was due to this unit using more beans.I noticed when I poured the grinds into my coffee filter that the grinds were much looser than I'm accustomed to.I think my previous grinder had been compressing the grinds and there were always clumps.I did not notice any clumps in the output from this unit, and the grinds seemed very even and loose.

Now that I've used the grinder several times, I must say it does spill some grinds onto the base when I remove the bin unless I work the grinds out somehow.I now gently lift the entire unit about an inch off the counter and gently tap it down to release the remaining grinds into the bin.I then remove the bin and tap the lid of the bin a few times before removing the lid. This just minimizes mess and waste.

The grind setting of 6 seems perfect for the relatively dry beans I used this time, even though I used it for auto-drip coffee, not espresso. For oily beans such as Starbucks, 7 might be the optimum grind setting.

Two other differences between this grinder and my previous one were the lids, one for the hopper and one for the grinds bin.In both cases, the lids for this unit snap shut, whereas the ones for my previous unit just nestled precariously on top of the respective containers.

One curious note: there is no way to turn the LED off, which concerned me because it is very bright and I don't want the display to burn out and quit working any time soon. But I think this is why there is no switch:within the entire (tiny-but-informative) manual for this unit, there is only one sentence in all caps: "UNPLUG FROM OUTLET WHEN NOT IN USE...".So there we have it -- that is why there is no on/off switch; the manufacturer expects us to keep the unit unplugged when we aren't actively using it.In response to the other reviewer's comment on needing to reprogram the number of cups after plugging the unit back in, it takes about 4 or 5 seconds to cycle through the number of cups (the default is 12 cups) until the desired selection is displayed, an extremely minor issue.

In spite of it's brevity, the manual is very descriptive and I found it sufficient. It provides a very detailed set of instructions for cleaning. The bean hopper, hopper lid, grind chamber, and grind chamber lid are all dishwasher-proof (top shelf). Then it also provides instructions for removing and cleaning the burr unit.

A dual-purpose scoop/stiff brush is provided.

Regarding it's appearance, it actually looks even nicer in my opinion than my new coffee maker. The body has a sleek, brushed stainless steel appearance, and the blue LED is very attractive when it is on.

The grind chamber is not made of glass, but I live in Florida; dry air here is almost a luxury and I rarely have problems with static anyway.Problems with static are dealt with the same as with any other grinder.I personally minimize loose grinds spilling everywhere by the following method.First I remove the hopper lid, then I cover the top of the hopper with the filter (opened wide, placed top down), then I turn the filter/hopper over and place it into the cup, keeping hold of the hopper which is now upside down. Then Itap the bottom of the hopper and remove it from the filter. Finally, I remove the filter from the cup and place it in the appropriate area of the coffee machine.I do this on top of a full sized paper towel, and clean up merely involves folding up the paper towel afterwards to contain the few stray grinds. However this method probably only works well for me because I rarely make more than 4-5 cups of coffee at a time and I always use paper filters.

I didn't find cleaning the unit difficult at all.Dump the beans into another bowl, twist the hopper hard right twice until the arrows align and then lift up, lift up the burr sleeve using a combination of the handle and grasping the sides (if the handle pops off, just pop it back on), and brush, brush, brush. Then twist the sleeve back on, twist the hopper back on, clean up the mess, and you are back in business.

By the way, contrary to the product description, there is no true cord storage; but one can wrap the cord around knobs underside the base.

This product has a 3-year limited warranty.

UPDATE APRIL 30, 2010:I've had this unit for about 15 months and all of a sudden it started whining a high pitched noise and almost no grinds were coming out.I called customer service and they are going to ship me an entirely new unit -- they specified "NEW"; they only asked that I return the old unit in the same box the new one comes in, when I receive it.They said there is a 4.00 shipping charge but they waived it.At this moment I am very impressed with Cuisinart. They surprised me.

UPDATE JULY 18, 2010:The brand new replacement grinder is now doing the same thing my original one started doing after 15 months;after grinding for 14-cups, I'm lucky to get a tablespoon of grinds from this nearly new one.The grinder can work for 20 or more seconds without a single grind coming out, and then I hear it finally grab a bean and a few sparse grinds fall out.Getting enough grinds to make a cup of coffee really heats up the unit.Apparently this is going to happen to these grinders sooner or later.I had one that went bad "later", and one "sooner".I'm not going to gamble and try a third.I am sad.

Capresso 560 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Brushed Silver Finish Review

Capresso 560 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Brushed Silver FinishFirst of all, there are 4 different models. For some reason, that basic information was difficult to find. I even called the company and the person on the phone had to go ask someone.

All 4 models are the same with the exception of the finish:

Black plastic.
Silver painted plastic.
Brushed Stainless steel finish (metal base).
Polished stainless steel finish (metal base).

It turns out they no longer make the polished stainless steel finish. I purchased the brushed stainless steel model 565.05 thinking it was the polished model. The picture was wrong. And even on one side of the box it shows the polished model.

So to me the only drawback to this grinder is the difficulty in picking and receiving the model I wanted.

Otherwise in my limited use so far, it is perfect. I suggest a metal base model so that it does not vibrate around. The brushed stainless steel matches my Breville machine perfectly too.

I studied a lot of grinders and this was the best model and price. I paid $119 with free shipping. Very easy to use; Pour some coffee beans in and spin the knob.

Krups GVX Burr Grinder Review

Krups GVX Burr GrinderFirst, let me say that I am NOT a coffee connoisseur (heresy, I know).Just a guy with a drip machine and a need for much morning brew.I wanted to grind my own because I hate the flavored coffee taste that I always seem to get from the grocery store grinder.I'm also busy and lazy.

I really like this grinder; and I like it for the same reasons that the guy from Hawaii hated it.I want to spend my morning drinking coffee, not preparing it (one cup at a time? - yeah, right).Pour the beans in (no more measuring), push the button, and before you can fill the maker with water, you have just the right amount of grind ready to go.Yes, there's a little sticking to the plastic container, but I've never had it cause any mess - just tap it on the sink before you remove the lid then pour it into the filter.Grind size and quantity takes a couple of attempts to figure out exactly what you like, but seems pretty consistent once set.Only gave it 4 stars because there are features on the more expensive units that would be nice - a BIG, sealed, hopper that would hold several days worth of beans; and glass grind containers that would completely eliminate the static issue. However, for my use, and for the price, this thing works great.Hope it holds up over time.

Black & Decker CBM210 Stainless Steel Burr Coffee Mill/GrinderI should have known better than to pay less than $50 for a burr grinder.

This machine, though compact and aesthetically pleasing, lacks the ability to produce uniform grinds which, really, is the only reason to buy a burr grinder. The first time I dumped beans into the hopper and held down the power button, I was dismayed at the resultant coarse-looking grinds. I thought I'd made a mistake and set the grinder wrong, but I wasn't.

Moreover, when I closely inspected the grinds container, I found grinds ranging from Turkish coffee-fine grinds to percolator-coarse grinds. Unacceptable.

If you're looking for a quality grinder (and you probably are if you've graduated from blade to burr), then don't look to spend less than $50.

Mr. Coffee IDS59-4 Electric 2-2/7-Ounce Coffee Grinder Review

Mr. Coffee IDS59-4 Electric 2-2/7-Ounce Coffee GrinderThis grinder is the same model that I was replacing. It is quite a bit more stylish with it's shiny exterior. It arrived very quickly and has been doing it's thing every day since. I would recommend this itemto anyone. The last one lasted several years and was used constantly.

Sleek and sophisticated, this electric 2-2/7-ounce coffee grinder not only looks good in any modern kitchen, but it also makes quick work of grinding whole coffee beans into freshly ground coffee ready for brewing. Simply add a measured amount of beans to the stainless-steel grinding chamber, position the transparent cover securely in place, and press down on the on/off safety switch to set the blades spinning (won't operate with improper placement of lid). The chamber's round shape helps ensure consistent grinding, and its generous interior can accommodate enough beans for up to 12 cups of coffee. Mr. Coffee Coffee Grinders Review

Mr. Coffee Coffee GrindersThis amazing little blade grinder has been crushing up our beans now for seven years and counting! They should have called it the Energizer ... it just keeps grinding, and grinding, and grinding ....

No bells and whistles, just plug it in, fill it with beans, put on the lid, push down on the button, count to ten, turn upside down filling lid with grounds, dump grounds from lid to coffee maker basket, replace lid, put back in cupboard 'til tomorrow morning.

If you need more from your grinder, don't look here, because that's all there is to it. But if you just need to make great coffee every morning, and need a reliable grinder at a great price, this is the one you are looking for.

Put me down as one fully satisfied customer.

Cuisinart DCG-12BC Grind Central Coffee Grinder Review

Cuisinart DCG-12BC Grind Central Coffee GrinderAfter much research and investigation into blade coffee grinders on this site and epinions, I had decided to purchase the KitchenAid because of the ability to wash and clean the cup and blades.I wanted a blade grinder for flax and spices as I use a burr grinder for coffee. The KitchenAid had a major complaint in that it was messy, which seems like a design flaw.
This Cuisinart grinder has it all:Capacity, cleaning cability, powerful motor, handsome design, "fairly" quiet (after all, it is a noisy process), cord storage under the base, absolutely no-mess-grinding and a lid for the stainless blade cup for storage of extra grindings.
On the con side, it is more expensive costing $30; but I think it will be a long lasting appliance and should easily outlast the other less expensive blade coffee grinders costing $20.Also, the instruction brochure states that this grinder is for purposes of grinding coffee only and using it for nuts and spices will dull the blades.Well, duh!I am sure the cheaper models would have the same problem and the Krups that I am replacing has a plastic lid that has become all pitted and cannot be cleaned properly.

Krups GX4100 Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder Review

Krups GX4100 Electric Coffee and Spice GrinderThe Krups Coffee/Spice Mill is a good value for the money.I use it primarily for grinding toasted seeds for Indian dishes (cardomman pods, cloves, cumin seed, peppercorns, coriander seed, mustard seed, chiles etc.).I read the reviews on how the plastic lid will 'cloud' from certain spices (e.g., cloves) and that doesn't matter to me.This grinder isn't a piece of artwork - it's a cooking tool.Where I used to spend 20 minutes with a hand-operated mill, the Krups does the same thing in about 5 seconds. It cleans up easily - it's all self-contained and there aren't any burrs to clean out - it's totally blade-operated.In a perfect world, it would grind more precisely (fine to coarse) - but that would require burrs and the cleaning associated with them.So for me and my needs, it's a good value for the money. The time I saved with the first usage more than pays for the machine.

Capresso Cool Grind Coffee Grinders Review

Capresso Cool Grind Coffee GrindersI bought this grinder and just love it.I don't seem to have any of the problems others are having...it isn't messy and my coffee has not stuck to the bottom at all.I love that it is larger, as we like our coffee strong, and with this one, we can grind a larger amount.Someone mentioned it takes up to 30 seconds to grind your coffee....well coffee should be ground for 20-30 seconds anyway for a perfect flavor...I grind it for about 25 seconds in this grinder and it comes out perfect!

Mr. Coffee IDS76 Electric 12-Cup Coffee Grinder with 3 Fineness Settings Review

Mr. Coffee IDS76 Electric 12-Cup Coffee Grinder with 3 Fineness SettingsIt works great! I place four hand fulls of coffee beans (to the max line) into the top and press the grind button and hold it down for a few seconds and PRESTO, very nicely ground coffee. Then I grind up another four hand fulls, placing the grinds into a plastic container. I do this about once a week.

There are some grounds left at the bottom of the grinder. With the unit unplugged, I just swish my finger around at the bottom and then tap the Mr. Coffee top into my plastic coffee grinds container, and Mr. Coffee is ready for another happy grind experience.

I LOVE it. My wife LOVES it. I don't expect it to download and play MP3s, just to grind coffee for me in a fun, clean way and it does just that. Plus...... it is an attractive coffee grinder. Looks nice on the counter.

Hamilton Beach 80374 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, Black Review

Hamilton Beach 80374 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, BlackI couldn't recommend this grinder more highly. It is solidly constructed, and the manufacturer took the time to add all the little details that are missing on cheaper models, like no-slip feet and a retractable cord (which is a little short, perhaps the one negative to this otherwise perfect product). The stainless steel grinder bowl is well designed - it has gradiated markings to let you know how many beans to put in for the number of cups of coffee you intend to brew, and it perfectly grinds the beans to your desired coarsness. In addition, it is removable AND dishwasher safe, making for easy cleaning.

The machine's slim, tall profile is ideal for easy on-counter or cabinet storage, and the black / stainless steel finish is attractive and a good match to most major coffee maker and espresso machine brands. The grinder provides multiple different settings for different coarsness and the amount of beans you are grinding, and since the grinding time is pre-set you can just push the button and move on to doing something else while the coffee grinds. It may take the "art" out of coffee grinding, but it will give you a great cup of coffee every time.

A final note - you may feel constrained by the pre-set options, but they still provide quite a bit of flexibility. If you like your coffee weaker, just put in a few less beans than your desired cup mark would call for (or vice versa if you like your coffee stronger).Having the specific settings means that when your experimenation finally comes out the way you want it to, you'll be able to remember next time ("oh, I used the 4-cup measure of beans to 8 cups of water, and I ground it on the medium-coarse setting") rather than having to try to guess at what you did to get that "perfect cup."

I can't imagine anything else that I would want in a grinder - the only semi-common option that it is missing is extra storage for beans or ground coffee; these features are not missed, however, as I always grind my beans fresh and I store them in a cool, dry airtight container.Storing your beans or grounds in the grinder is a sure way to ruin their taste.

Is this the perfect grinder?I'd say so.I give it a perfect 5/5.

Toastmaster 1119 Push-Button Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder Review

Toastmaster 1119 Push-Button Electric Coffee and Spice GrinderI bought this product because it's the least expensive model sold here in Amazon.I figured how bad could a relatively simple device with a singular function be?While the unit does grind coffee, it is relatively loud, messy, and takes longer.

Noise:It's (relatively) loud. This isn't a big deal if you're just at home but I use this in an office setting and I don't want to attract too much attention. No model is whisper quiet but the motor and beans produce quite a cacophony.

Mess:The design of the top fitting into the base isn't thought out.The plastic safety top fits around the base instead of going into it.As a result, there's some slight spillage of grounds when you take the top off.In addition, you'll be hard pressed if you want to pour the grounds into the top after grinding and then measure the grounds from there because there's a indentation in the top that prevents easy scooping, thereby producing more mess.

Grind quality:There is something is the blade design (I think because the blades sit a little higher from the bottom of the container) that prevents it from producing a fine grind no matter how long you hold the button.

The better models are those from Krups and Black & Decker. They are about $5 more but are worth it in terms of the above considerations.

Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinders Review

Capresso Infinity Conical Burr GrindersI've been through a couple of burr grinders - the Gaggia MM and a Melitta, so when it came time to buy a new one, I knew what I didn't want - a noisy, dusty grinder that wears out quickly.I've pretty much found it with the Capresso Infinity.

I did some reading, and depending on what you need, it's amazing how much you can spend for a burr grinder - they range up to $400 and beyond. The main features I was interested in, though, were available in the sub-$200 range. For my pump espresso machine, these features included:
>consistent, even grind - for better tasting coffee
>"reduction" gearing - where the grinder motor speed is slowed down without loosing grinding torque, resulting in less static and dust
>less noise - it's nice to have conversations while making coffee
>durable, long lasting quality - I wanted to keep my third grinder for longer than a year.

The Capresso Infinity has delivered on the first three points, and looks good regarding durability. It has commercial grade grinders, which produce an even, consistent grind. With the reduction gearing, it grinds with a nice, even drone - more like a diesel truck than a jet plane taking off.And the dust that used to fly everywhere is gone - the slower speed has virtually eliminated the static.I've found it easy to use as well - one twist dial that works like the old dial timers - twist to the time setting you want, and it grinds until the time expires.

NOTE - I did read where one person had a problem with the timer where he couldn't turn it off. That may be because he tried to turn it backwards, which is not what the directions recommend. To stop grinding, you turn the bean hopper to the "no grind" mode; otherwise, you can break the switch.

Overall, I am pleased with the purchase. The only real adjustment has been figuring out the proper grind level again. The "extra fine" settings will create a fine powder that is too fine for my machine. However, once I switched to the "fine" setting, it has worked great. The amazing extra benefit is how much better the coffee tastes - the fine, even grind makes for maximum flavor extraction. So matter what grinder you buy, go for one that grinds more evenly - you'll enjoy your coffee even more. For the price, I didn't find one that had the combination of features (and less noise and dust!) found in the Capresso Infinity.

Breville BCG450XL Conical Burr Grinder Review

Breville BCG450XL Conical Burr GrinderI have used three grinders in the past 5 years, one blade and two wheel burr grinders, all broke or were dusty and noisy. This is the first conical wheel grinder I have owned and I cannot compare it to its comparable competitor, the Capresso, and I have only used it a dozen times or so,However,I am impressed by its quality, it is beautifully made and the huge reduction in noise was most welcome. The big plus...I set the timer, press start and walk away, no holding lids down, no coffee flying around etc.Just for the reduction in noise, its quality and the fire and forget operation makes it a 5. It grinds coffee very consistently and the grind is adjusted easily. Is it perfect? No.Two items I noticed. It has a 30 second timer...I need more time so I set it for 20 seconds and do two grinds...not an issue but for me, but wanted to tell you. Second, the ground coffee compartment is shaped in a manner that has insets so its not as easy to clean out and I have to empty the coffee carefully. Still I recommend this and am impressed. It is quality!I will provide a six month review to see if this maintains its operation.

After six months my initial views remain the same, a very fine grinder!

Product Description:
Beautifully designed, this conical burr grinder features adjustable settings for various grind options. Choose from ultra-fine for Turkish coffee or large and coarse for percolators. The settings offer consistently shaped grinds and even extraction, which is the key to producing flavorful coffee. In addition, the unit's metal conical burrs preserve more natural bean flavor than blade drivers due to the slower grind nature. The grinder comes equipped with a removable bean hopper that holds 1/2 pound of coffee beans, and its stainless-steel/polymer base offers start and stop control, as well as an on/off switch. Other highlights include a variable timer with 10 to 30 seconds of grind time, anti-static technology, and a removable burr for convenient cleaning. The conical burr grinder measures 5-1/4 by 7 by 11-1/4 inches.

Cuisinart DCG-20 Grind Central Coffee Grinder Review

Cuisinart DCG-20 Grind Central Coffee GrinderJust fill the bowl with beans, press the button and with a lot of noise, this coffee grinder whizzes into action! Nothing's nicer than fresh ground coffee and this Cuisinart lives up tho the "Cuisinart" name.
Areas which I think need improvement are insulation of some sort, if loud, grinding noise for a few minutes bothers you. Also, this unit is not immersible, and you must clean it with a wet cloth rather than being able to dunk the unit in warm, soapy water. For this reason, I do not recommend using this for coffee and for spices, unless you are intentionally blending for flavor.
This grinds quite well, however the bowl isn't large and for large pots of coffee, I've found that I must grind the coffee in two loads.
You cannot see the consistency of your grind accurately, so you must open the unit and peek. It grinds so well and so quickly that it is easy to over-grind your beans.
All in all, it's a handy little gadget that grinds well and quickly. Its blades and motor have withstood regular usage. With little practice, you're able to grind uniformly. With routine use, I'm able to discern when the coffee is ground to my preferences by listening to the sound of the beans within the unit while grinding.

Hamilton Beach 80365 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, Platinum Review

Hamilton Beach 80365 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, PlatinumI too read all the reviews...I spent several hours, so let me save you the trouble. This item is sturdy, washable, compact, and grinds beans for anywhere from 4-12 cups of coffee.

I use it for both my 2 cup french press and my percolator, when my mill & brew coffee maker, which I have two carafs and 3 baskets for, is busy.We really get into coffee here - I must have 10 varieties of beans in the freezer.

It also did a fabulous job grinding hazelnuts very fine for a cookie dough where the hazelnuts were, in effect, part of the flour.

I do love that the grinder basket and top can go in the dishwasher, and the little brush that is stowed on the back is a thoughtful and utilized addition.

The only drawback would be that if you are only making 2 cups of coffee and you want a course grind, you have to let the machine think you're making 8 cups, by moving the cup setting, as this machine is intended to grind beans for a minimum of 4 cups. When I make enough coffee for my percolator, I can get an intermediate course grind with no problem.

What sold me was this: After I read all the reviews I went to my local "megamart," found the grinders, opened up the boxes of the makes I wanted to compare, and I literally took things apart and put them back together.

Like another reviewer warned, stay away from those other grinders with the tiny (you can barely see them) plastic pins that engage the start button.Once those bits of plastic break off, you're SOL.

This is a very reasonably priced maker which I've had for 6 months.I love it so much, that for much of that time I've felt just a bit guilty that I hadn't yet praised this maker on Amazon. With that done - it's time to grind some beans. :)Enjoy.

PS: It looks very pretty/handsome on the counter.

Toastmaster Coffee Grinder Review

Toastmaster Coffee GrinderThis grinder is powerful for such a small one.If you press the button repeatedly to give it a pulse action, you will be able to grind your beans finer.I recommend giving it a tap (tap the top of the grinder while the platic top is still on)between every 10 pulses to release the oily grinds from the walls to maximize grinding, then hold button for 10 seconds at the end. This made my coffee perfect (althought with any grinder you'll find the occassional lump), and it was very flavorful.I used the Cafe Altura Organic beans in Dark Roast.VERY SMOOTH.
