This tamper fits my Starbucks Barista's 53mm portofilter perfectly.Pretty much like it was machined specifically for my portofilter/basket.This tamper is heavier than my friend's Reg Barber (shockingly heavy actually), and in my opinion has nicer workmanship. For the price this HAS to be the best tamper on the market.

For as "gimicky" as I thought the Flavour Shaker was going to be, it really works.Recently, I used it to "finely crush" corriander seeds per a recipe.I was going to bring out the mortar & pestel when I realized I'd give JO's Flavour Shaker a go.I was really pleased with the results. As our household often uses "whole" spices when cooking, I can see this coming in quite handy for future culinary endeavors.Though I gave it as a gift, I am a benefactor of this nifty contraption as well.

Product Description:
Much like an aerobic mortar and pestle, Jamie Oliver's Flavour Shaker is designed to crush, mix, and release flavour from whole spices, herbs, garlic, nuts, citrus rind or even lime or bay leaves. In just a few seconds you can create and add flavour to all kinds of everyday dishes. Simply pop your ingredients inside, add the magic ball and give it a good shake. The ceramic ball does all the work crushing, grinding and bruising the contents.
It's sized to give you just the right amount of marinade or dressing (you don't need a lot) so that you can pour the contents straight over your food. The ergonomically designed Flavour Shaker in olive is complemented by a black rubber soft grip to ensure that it stays in the palm of your hand.

Jamie's Top Tips
Don't overfill the Flavour Shaker; make sure your ingredients all fit into the bottom part. You can crush things in batches then add a little more if necessary.
Use your mixes, marinades, dressings toppings etc., immediately for real freshness.
Make sure you store the ball inside the Flavour Shaker when not in use--that way you won't lose it
And finally don't be shy... give it a bash.

I purchased this coffee grinder in July of 2003.I love the design and the color matches our other teal accented kitchen items perfectly. It does a decent job of ginding coffee, but after only 5 months, of once a day use, it started to develop vertical stress cracks in the plastic casing around the top.As of right now (January 2004), more cracks have developed and the initial cracks have become even longer (going down below the interior stainless steel "bowl").Because of all the cracks, the lid now fits very loosely, and I'm afraid that with more use, the cracks will continue to extend downward, rendering the entire unit unusable. The stainless steel cased version may be the way to go, but since we don't have any stainless steel accessories in our kitchen, I will be replacing my grinder with another brand.
